Save my Soul

Just got a reading with the actors for "Save My Soul". Can't wait to be on Sunday. It was fracking awesome. Almost hard to believe. Some actors just have it. They're magic. Sunday's gonna be magic. A friend of us gave us his beautiful house so we can shoot on a beautiful set. We have two cameras, the crew is about 10 people. It just sounds so perfect. It's too perfect, something's gonna happen. We're gonna get stuck in the US on friday! ( gotta go to the border to extend our visa)... It's gonna rain giant frogs, or the big earthquake's gonna strike!
We've so spoiled with our actors since we started directing... Makes you wanna write and direct even more...
Tomorrow we're doing shot list ( we have some leftovers: beers and crepes), a bit of story editing... Love it. Love making movies.

Scripts, Scripts, Scripts

"Smile of April" is about 100 pages but we're not happy with it yet. Need to work on the 5 stories individually. Need a better structure, something good to start with. A first draft for next week end maybe?

We started to send emails to actors for our shorts... We need two actors for "Save My Soul", four for " In his head" ( we got the main one already) and way more for "Planet 6", but the roles are all very small in this last one, except for the main character that we already have... Sounds like a lot of stuff to shoot. October will be busy! Love it. We need to write more shorts for November.

Save My Soul will be pretty easy, we just have to go and play with the camera to get our shots list ready, then the only pb I see could be with Costume, for our "Angel with no sense of fashion".
In His Head will be easy too... a bit more props maybe.
Planet 6... uh lots of props. Have to build some of them.

Jesus Nuts' ... Another feature that we wrote a while ago... 9 (official) drafts later and it's in Ryan's friend's hands for a last check up and then... off it goes to the producer. That's where we cross our fingers very hard.

It's raining. It's getting dark earlier. Vancouver is trying to tell us something... Is summer over?

Short Movies

We made our first short movie in July. It was supposed to be dogma, 5 crew members and 3 actors.... We ended up with a real movie set. It was weird. Cool, but weird. When we said we wanted to make a short, a lot of people wanted to help and come on board, we ended up with more than 20 people, free equipment, location, gear, free everything... almost free food. So it was big. Really big. We loved it. But the next ones will be small, real small.

We have three scripts for now, " In his head", " Save My Soul" and "Planet 6", ( and tons of other ideas) they are all comedy. Can't write a drama in 7 pages. They are all about afterlife, angels or aliens. We have a challenge for this winter. Getting ready to shoot a feature in 2007... and shooting short movies every month, at least twice a month. Let's train, let's tell stories. Just a camera, an AD, a DOP and a boom op... Focus on story and performances. We want to tell stories, play with actors, prove that you don't need a huge budget and special effect to make a movie, no... You just need a good script and good actors. Have you ever stopped in the middle of a movie because you thought the light was too hot or two dark? Story and performances, that's the key.

Smile Of April

Smile of April is... will be a feature. We got the idea two days ago and already wrote 3/4 of it. I think we can say we are motivated. We needed something easy to shoot, so that we can focus on the story and the performances.

Smile of April, it's about life.

Life is pretty easy to define. One day you were born, one day you will die and in between, you spend your time worrying and asking yourself questions. Mais la vie n'est pas un long fleuve tranquille. Everything can change. It only takes one person, one place, one moment, it could even happen now, on April the 4th, at 5pm.

So what's the plan? Having a first draft within two days, a plan within two months and a full feature within the year. I know, good luck to us... But I think there is one thing we proved since we left France: Impossible is nothing (Yeah I stole this to Addidas, don't tell them). If you have a dream, no matter how far and hard it seems to be, it's not. Life is all about reaching the unreachable. Rules are all about being broken.

Let's break.
